Blessings But What if God is Silent? August 2018

But What if God is Silent? When a tragedy like ours happens, we may feel God abandoned us. We may feel completely alone and that God is far away. But the truth is, that we are never abandoned by God. God had a plan for His children the minute sin entered into the world. First, of course, He would send His only beloved Son into the world to save that which was lost through sin. That meant that Jesus would have to die on the cross for us. Which meant that He would then ascend back to Heaven to be with His Father once again. Jesus would indeed be at the right hand of the Father. So, were we...

Lasting Gifts July 24, 2018

Lasting Gifts In May of this year I was able to fly to New Mexico to visit a dear friend whom I’ve known for 30 years. Alvirda Deloris Pahor was her name. She was 86 years old. I introduced her to others as my Mother. Indeed, she wasn’t only a mother to me, she was also my spiritual mother; my Bible teacher. She introduced me to others as her daughter. She nicknamed me, “Sunday.” What an enduring name it is to me. She even bought me an Amplified Bible and had “Sunday” inscribed on the front cover. I treasure that Bible! In April of this year she had fallen and broke her hip. A mutual friend...

I give thanks to God, our Father! So many reasons in general to be praising God. I certainly do not take any of those blessings for granted and am very thankful for all God does for me. However, when something happens during normal activities of the day where it gives me pause to stop what I was doing and be in the moment, I thank God for them. I feel like it is an extra special visit from Jesus. For example; this past week I have had these moments when I gave pause, took the moments into my mind, (So I could remember to write it in my journal.)  and my heart. And I smiled! Sometimes...

It’s What I Choose! Blessings Post #6

It’s  What I Choose! Two and a half years have slipped by. My heart and mind can’t comprehend the thought that I haven’t seen Russell, Shawna, Tylee and Blake for two and a half years! It makes me feel very lonesome. It just doesn’t seem real! When I think of how many years ahead that will come and go without seeing them it makes me feel sad. It is hard work to keep that smile on my face when I don’t feel like smiling. This past Christmas was extremely hard. However, I did find myself enjoying the day. We rented a condo about 45 minutes from our home to spend Christmas week. It worked out...

I am told that I have given others hope. I have been told that others love the relationship I have with Jesus. I have been told that I have encouraged others. They say, “If Joanne can face and overcome such tragedy, I can too.” I want to be known as someone who, when great loss came to our family, made the choice to find my comfort and peace in Jesus. I am not “just getting by” as the days pass. Life is good. My life is good. I still have so many things to be grateful for. My daughter is doing good and places her trust in God. My husband and I just celebrated our 42nd Anniversary. I am so...

“Things that Matter” How precious are those moments that we share with our families. I am so grateful the way God orchestrates events in my life in such a way that when I look back I see how blessed I was to have these moments. They were a gift from God. I feel that different events in the year before our family passed away, I was given moments that I would later say to myself, “I am so grateful that I had that moment with them.” They stirred my heart with joy and happiness. Some of my most favorite memories are those that were done in the spur of the moment. Moments when the words, “That is...
