Blessings But What if God is Silent? August 2018

But What if God is Silent? When a tragedy like ours happens, we may feel God abandoned us. We may feel completely alone and that God is far away. But the truth is, that we are never abandoned by God. God had a plan for His children the minute sin entered into the world. First, of course, He would send His only beloved Son into the world to save that which was lost through sin. That meant that Jesus would have to die on the cross for us. Which meant that He would then ascend back to Heaven to be with His Father once again. Jesus would indeed be at the right hand of the Father. So, were we...

Joy in the Midst of Suffering? Aug. 4, 2018

Joy in the Midst of Suffering?   ?   James 1:2 tells us, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials…” (NIV) Wait! What? Joy in the midst of suffering? My suffering put me in the pit of despair! There was absolutely no joy in my life! However, what I came to understand as the months went by, was this JOY isn’t a feeling of happiness based on my good days or bad days. Happiness is fleeting; depending on what’s happening in my life. “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me and my heart is filled with JOY.” (Psalm 28:7 NLT)...

Coping with Grief “GRIEF BURST” July 25, 2018

GRIEF BURSTS Three years later and I still experience grief bursts. Apparently, that’s normal, it’s okay for me to have them. Last weekend, my twin sister’s daughter-in-law, Jacki, and granddaughter, Jaylynn, drove up from Virginia to spend the weekend with them in upstate New York. My twin, Jeanne, was so excited to have them home for a couple days. I asked her to send lots of pictures and videos. Her granddaughter is almost 2 years old and just precious. Jeanne sent pictures of Jaylynn glancing over a little gate to look at the flowers in the flower garden. A picture of her “talking” on a...

Lasting Gifts In May of this year I was able to fly to New Mexico to visit a dear friend whom I’ve known for 30 years. Alvirda Deloris Pahor was her name. She was 86 years old. I introduced her to others as my Mother. Indeed, she wasn’t only a mother to me, she was also my spiritual mother; my Bible teacher. She introduced me to others as her daughter. She nicknamed me, “Sunday.” What an enduring name it is to me. She even bought me an Amplified Bible and had “Sunday” inscribed on the front cover. I treasure that Bible! In April of this year she had fallen and broke her hip. A mutual friend...

Faith and Grieving July 2, 2018

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”  Wilderness and wasteland. Another translation of this verse says, “…a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”  Wilderness, wasteland, and desert. In the context of this verse, these words are good descriptive words for the way I was feeling when our family died. Wilderness conjures up images like rough terrains to cross; rocky hills to climb; muddy slopes that cause you to...
