For the Advance of the Gospel

I have written before about how God has and continues to bless us in the aftermath of such a devastating, and tragic loss; when we had to bury Russell, Shawna, Tylee, and Blake; our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. God continues to give us hope for the future and healing from such a horrific tragedy. He continues to give us opportunities to speak to people about His love and blessings in our lives. Everyday, I look for ways that I can share this with others. Eagerly waiting for any occasion, the Lord gives me.

As I sat reading my Scriptures this morning, I paused and gave thought to the following verse;  “Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the Word of God more courageously and fearlessly. It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love knowing that I am put here for the defense of the Gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” Philippians 1: 12-19 NIV

I know from experience our trials and sufferings are never for nothing. The thing I have to remember to say and believe is, “Jesus, I trust You! I don’t understand why this (any suffering) is happening, but one thing I do know! You love me. You are a good God. You are trustworthy. And you will never leave me. I will lean on You. I know You walk with me through the storm.”

I never waivered at the goodness of God when our family died. It wasn’t His fault. He didn’t cause this to happen. Like Saint Paul, I will continue to tell others the good news of the Gospel. I will share with others how they too can trust God to help them and turn it all around for our good. They just have to ask God to help them. Leave your hearts open to Jesus as He knocks. He so desires to come into your heartache and comfort you.
