August 8th, 2015 Saturday.
In my quiet time this morning I found myself softly smiling. Today I decided to sit at the table on the porch with my morning cup of coffee and my Bible. I love the quiet, early morning hours and the fresh smell of the outdoors.
Of course, my thoughts always take me to my Russell, Shawna, Tylee and Blake. I was sipping my coffee and just breathing in the new morning. I was looking at the mountains towards the east and a soft breeze came up. I suddenly heard a buzzing noise right next to my right ear. I sat perfectly still, hoping if I did so I wouldn’t get stung by a bee. I heard the buzzing noise again. Ever so slowly I turned my head towards the sound. And close enough to kiss me was a little hummingbird! I drew in my breath as I watched it quickly fly off. As the bird flew off, I smiled and whispered, “Good morning Russell.”
Now the reason I was surprised at the appearance of this little hummingbird was because I don’t have any hummingbird feeders in our yard. Russell loves hummingbirds. He had about three hummingbird feeders hanging in front of his big living room window and every time he saw the hummingbirds come to the feeder he called Tylee and Blake over to watch them. He told me one time that I should put up some hummingbird feeders in my backyard. Well, now I do.
I am thankful that God sends little signs to us to let us know that our loved ones aren’t so far away. They are as close as a hummingbird sometimes.
