“Blessings” Part 2

I keep a journal of the wonders and miracles God has done for us. I deliberately look for and take note of them. In the mist of such grieving I tell Jesus that I trust Him. I stay so very close to Him. “When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought joy to my soul.” Psalm 94:19. I felt safe in His arms. Like a small, frightened child, running to her Mom or Dad for comfort and feeling like she never wanted to leave the warmth and security of their arms is how I felt and exactly what I did. Jesus knows and understands my aching heart.

During the first week as we stayed with our friends and neighbors, Dave and Connie, a good friend came by. And even though certain events took our lives in different directions and we didn’t connect as much as we once had, we knew we could count on each other. I missed her and what our friendship had once been. Gina’s son, Derek, and Russell had known each other since the sixth grade and were friends ever since. They did everything together! They were inseparable and were always there for each other; no matter what! Oh, the stories I could tell! On this particular day, Gina stopped by. I was waking up from a nap and just lying there, listening to all the voices of sweet friends upstairs. A voice I heard was one I knew well. I went upstairs and Gina was standing by the front door. She saw me as I came up the stairs and wrapped her arms around me crying, saying, “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, Joanne!” Gina was a second mother to Russell as I was a second mother to Derek. I knew she felt like she had lost a son. I said, “Let’s go downstairs and visit.” As we walked into the bedroom, I sat on the edge of the bed, thinking she would sit next to me. The next thing I knew, she walked around to the other side of the bed, crawled in, weeping and said, “Lay next to me.” She covered me up with the blankets, held me in her arms and we cried and cried. We just held each other. No words were needed. I had my friend back and I was blessed.

“Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts. Glory in His Holy Name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always. Remember the wonders He has done; His miracles and the judgments He pronounced.” Psalm 105:2-5
